Corporate Travel Scheme is the Business in Teesside
As the business community looks to find ways to be more efficient in the current challenging economic climate, local bus operator, Stagecoach North East has witnessed a 1,223 per cent increase* in the number of tickets supplied to local businesses through its corporate travel scheme.
Since October 2009, the scheme has provided 12,200 tickets at a discounted cost to the local business community and there was a 77 per cent increase in sales in April alone**.
The record sales are attributed to the growing number of organisations that have joined the scheme including the UK Border Agency, Pertemps, Working Links, Middlesbrough Council and A4e.
The scheme was launched following its success across Tyne & Wear and Stagecoach North East was determined to provide a similar scheme in Teesside. Essentially, the corporate travel scheme is designed to enable employees to benefit from discounted travel via their employer.
The scheme offers employees an additional five per cent discount when their employer purchases their ticket ***. Companies can purchase a yearly travel pass (Annual Megarider) or corporate travel vouchers entitling the user to exchange the voucher for a daily ticket or weekly Megarider, on behalf of their staff. Furthermore, there is no limit to how many people can benefit from the offer or a minimum purchase requirement for the employer.
An additional benefit of purchasing an annual travel pass through the scheme is that the employer can choose how the employee reimburses the company for the ticket: either in one installment or payments spread over a longer period of time. There is also another option within the scheme that is known as Salary Sacrifice. This enables the employer and employees to take advantage of reduced National Insurance and Income Tax contributions.
John Conroy, Managing Director of Stagecoach North East says: “Since its launch, the scheme has proved extremely popular among a diverse range of companies across Teesside. The increase in sales is testament to our commitment to enhancing and innovating public transport and our desire to support the communities we serve on every possible level.
“In a continually challenging economic climate, affordable travel is more important than ever and our scheme enables businesses to offer their staff the opportunity to travel at a discounted rate. We hope that more businesses and organisations in Teesside will join the scheme and enjoy its benefits, and would urge any interested parties to contact our team to learn more about what it has to offer.”
Any business or organisation that would like more information or to join the scheme should contact Laura Breheny on 0191 566 0277.
