Affiliate Marketing
To create a PR and media relations campaign that would promote the launch of the company’s affiliate marketing programme. Trade titles were to be the sole focus of the campaign and were to span the marketing, technology and leisure sectors.
Working closely with Affiliate Window, the service provider to megabus.com, we developed a series of unique incentives that would appeal to prospective affiliates and used this as our news angle to cut through and stimulate interest among the media to promote the new programme.
Promotions were also created for each trade sector and uploaded to numerous affiliate marketing websites. Daily blogs and posts were created and uploaded to the sites too, to further stimulate interest and create a ‘word of mouth campaign’ among the affiliate community.
The affiliate marketing programme was featured in all agreed trade titles and attracted hundreds of affiliates to the scheme. We are currently working on phase two of the project.
North America Launch
To support the expansion of megabus.com across North America Velvet devised a PR and media relations campaign that would work for both the UK and American media.
Following research to compile extensive media lists covering the newly launched routes in North America including New York, Boston, Chicago, Toronto, Memphis and Washington; we identified a strong news hook that would work in the UK and
US. megabus.com had recently welcomed its ten millionth customer on board its services in the UK and we contacted the passenger giving him a five-day all expenses paid trip to New York to celebrate. Part of his package was an overnight stay in Boston and he would travel there on the new US megabus.com service. The press release now had a human interest angle, detailed the success and growth of the company and also provided the perfect platform to discuss its key messages.
Photo-calls of the ten millionth customer were coordinated to chart the event and were issued simultaneously to the UK and US media.
Widespread coverage was achieved in the UK and North America and more importantly, sales of megabus.com tickets rose significantly in the UK and the US during the course of the PR campaign.
