Case Study

The UK’s leading provider of pipes, fittings and flanges to the oil, gas, petrochemical, power and water industries across the world, asked Velvet to help it raise its profile and in doing so bolster sales.

Working closely with the senior management team we have developed a rolling calendar of proactive news releases and features that have spanned national and international mainstream and trade media outlets. We also work with an experienced editorial photographer to capture a mix of artistic, perspective and abstract shots that work well for regular print and trade media spreads.

The coverage secured in trade titles such as Offshore Technology, The Engineer and Platform Magazine among others, has strengthened Glamal’s reputation as a leading player in the industry and has had a positive impact upon new business development by reaching new audiences through the international media outlets.

In addition to the PR activity, copy has been developed for a number of online profiles and a series of corporate events designed and managed.

Events: The Glamal Engineering Charity Cup

This project began as a corporate event for Glamal’s clients. However, as we presented our creative concepts, the original brief was significantly expanded to engage with a broader industry audience and the wider public.

So what did we do? In a nutshell, we made the dreams of thirty grown men come true, entertained 1,000 people and raised over £25,000 for charity.

A full-length professional football match was staged at the Riverside Stadium, home to Middlesbrough FC, where the Glamal team took on a side comprised of clients to compete for the Glamal Engineering Charity Cup.

The players arrived on the official Boro team coach, were managed by former Arsenal and Manchester United footballers, the clients wore the new season strip that had yet to be worn by the Boro team, football pundits Bernie Slaven and Alistair Brownlee provided match commentary that was used in the DVD capturing the event in its entirety, interviews were filmed in the Boro studio and the obligatory Man of the Match champagne was sprayed in the dressing rooms.

What’s more, the crowd watching from the stands could buy an official Red Square programme that we produced exclusively for the match, as well as branded rattles and flags, with all proceeds donated to the Holistic Cancer Care Centre. Post match, a gala dinner complete with charity auction was staged at the ground for 150 guests.

The event received significant media coverage, made a positive impact upon the perception of Glamal in the community and its industry and generated much needed funds for charity.
